Bight and early this morning, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences unveiled its nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards. The King’s Speech led the way with 12 nominations, and the Coen brothers’ western, True Grit, scored 10.
I'm torn about True Grit receiving so many nominations. I have a history with the original movie and its actors, so my loyalty lies with the original movie version of True Grit, starring John Wayne. I know the Coen bro's picture isn't so much a remake of the John Wayne classic, but rather a retelling of the book. Either way, as much as I like Jeff Bridges and the raw story telling of the Coen brothers, I prefer John Wayne to be the only Oscar winner for his portrayal of Rooster Cogburn. There, I said it.
